Dave Bender Doubles Monthly Gross Revenue in Two Months While Taking ProFit’s Business Accelerator

Dave Bender had hit a serious road block.

“I wouldn’t say we were in survival mode, but we weren’t really growing and I couldn’t figure out how to get us back to, at the time, pre-COVID numbers,” said Bender about where his gym—Contemporary Athlete in Clifton Park, New York—was just a couple years ago. 

That’s when he decided to do some research into business coaching and, three years ago, stumbled across ProFit Marketing Solutions and their Business Accelerator Coaching Program.

How it All Started
Bender first opened Contemporary Athlete in 2012. The business grew for a number of years, consistently hitting around $25,000 a month in gross revenue through doing a lot of semi-private group training and sports performance training.

Then the global pandemic hit in 2020 and he found himself bringing in between $14,000 and $15,000 a month in gross revenue, barely enough to bother continuing to operate. 

That’s when he turned to the Business Accelerator for help.

And in just eight weeks, as he made his way through the coaching program and began implementing the suggestions, he added 50 new members and his revenue had jumped to $32,000, well above even his pre-COVID numbers.

Three Key Business Accelerator Takeaways 
1. Their Marketing Works
Prior to the program, Bender had software and systems set up, but wasn’t really using them efficiently.

The program, he explained, helped him “take a serious look at what we were doing from a business standpoint, and make some much needed adjustments.” 

As he was working his way through the coaching program, Bender decided to finally turn on his marketing systems, as well as launch the program’s suggested advertising, which brought in an influx of new leads, 50 of which he was able to convert into clients over the course of the next eight weeks.

2. Rates Raised
Even bigger than the marketing component, Bender said, was how ProFit’s Gym Business Mentors Tim Lyons and Randy Angsten helped him believe in himself and his worth.

“They gave me permission to really charge what I thought our worth is and our value is,” he said.

As a result, Bender raised his rates from sitting between $200 and $225 a month to $300 to $325 a month. Since then, he has increased them even more to as high as $385 a month, which has gone a long way in increasing his average client value and overall revenue.

3. Continued Support
Finally the continued “very direct support” from the ProFit coaches helped him “make the changes I needed to make in a timely fashion,” he said.

What has been incredibly valuable has been the speed with which they respond. 

“They’re always right there. I never have to wait even 24 hours to get a response from them,” he added.

One more thing: Another game changing adjustment Bender made since taking the Business Accelerator was switching from a single pod to a double pod model, meaning his 5,000 square foot facility now allows for two groups of six clients and one coach training at the same time, rather than just one group of six and one coach. This has made it easier to accommodate more members in his facility.

Making the Changes
Bender credits the way the coaching program is structured and templated—the fact that it provides “an actual playbook to follow,” he said—with taking the overwhelm out of making big business changes.

“It just made it easy to follow. ‘Hey, ‘here’s your homework for Week 1, do these things, and we’ll talk about it next week,” he explained. 

And if he did need help with it, there was always a video, resource, document or live call to help him troubleshoot the next challenge.

“It makes you feel like you were eating the elephant one bite at a time,” he added.

Where he is Today
Today, Bender has 154 members, up from 48 prior to taking the Business Accelerator Coaching Program.

Further, his average client value has increased by $100, and his revenue is at an all-time high—$45,000 to $46,000 a month—in the 15 years he has been in business.
Finally, Bender now has a staff of six coaches, which has allowed him to remove himself entirely from any on-floor coaching at his gym.

“Pretty much all of my time is spent on marketing, sales, growth of the business, training my coaching team, client appreciation, accountability, and attrition avoiding systems. Those are really where I spend my time,” he said.

In many ways, Bender’s business has now become a turnkey operation, so much so that Bender has also taken on running another gym (one that he doesn’t own) on the side.

Bender credits the quick success to the Business Accelerator program, and now his ongoing success to being part of the Iron Circle, ProFit’s mastermind group, which he joined as soon as he hit the $30,000 monthly revenue target required to join the exclusive group.

“If there’s a way to throw gasoline on a fire, the [Iron Circle] is one. We grew very quickly through Accelerator, but the Iron Circle really gave me the support and access from people much further up the food chain,” he said.

He added: “It’s actually a group of people who care about each other. I have been part of other masterminds and groups, where it’s easy to get lost in the mix,” he said, adding that the Iron Circle isn’t like that.

Bender's Message
Bender’s message is simple: If you want to be more successful financially, start by taking the Business Accelerator Coaching Program.

“I mean, if you hate money, do something else,” he joked.

“It’s true, though. If you actually really want to make a change in your business and you’re willing to be vulnerable, then there isn’t a better place to go,” he added.
