From a Personal Training Studio to Doubling her Revenue with ProFit’s Semi-Private Model: How Tanya Moorehead Transformed her Gym

Tanya Moorehead opened her personal training studio, Transcend Training in Richmond, Kentucky, in 2020 and by 2023, she was at capacity.

“Once you fill all those time spots, you are pretty much capped out. We were pretty much maxed out. We couldn’t grow anymore,Moorehead said about the one-on-one gym model.

Further, her clients were limited both to Moorehead’s schedule, and to coming in just a couple days a week, because that’s all the time she had in order to accommodate 30 clients.

At the time, she was working around 40 on-floor hours with her 30 clients, and the only way to earn more revenue would be to work more, and she knew quality would suffer if she was working 60 on-flour energy draining coaching hours each week.

“I knew that there was a problem, and I knew I needed to do something to change it,” Moorehead said.

Seeking a solution, Moorehead decided to go to a ProFit Summit in Tennessee in 2023.

She attended the Summit, but was still hesitant to join the Business Accelerator Coaching Program, as she wanted to follow ProFit online for a while “to see if they were legit and real because there are a lot of business coaches that are not,” she said. 

“So I kind of watched them on social media for a while, and I felt that they aligned with a lot of my beliefs,” Moorehead said. 

So she took the plunge and enrolled in the Business Accelerator Coaching Program a year-and-a-half ago.

1. How to be an Entrepreneur
In a nutshell, the Business Accelerator changed Moorehead’s entire business “from the ground up,” she explained.

She credits this to the various business systems, such as marketing and lead nurture systems, the coaching program gave her. And more importantly, to how it taught her how to actually run a business.

“When I first opened, all I knew was how to be a trainer,” she said.

As a result, pre-Business Accelerator, Moorehead admits she wasn’t paying attention to any business metrics at all.

“I wasn’t running numbers. I wasn’t doing anything, so it taught me the basic fundamentals of running a business,” she added.

2. Opened her Eyes
In short, the Business Accelerator “opened my eyes” to another way of running a gym, said Moorehead, who has been in the industry for 13 years. 

“The semi-private model: I never would have thought to implement that model,” she said.

But when she did implement it, everything improved, including more than doubling her revenue and helping her finally become profitable. 

3. Marketing
Once joining the Business Accelerator, Moorehead turned to ProFit’s CLA to help nurture and track leads coming in, leads that started flowing in faster than ever thanks to turning on ProFit’s digital advertising. 

“This reason I had the most growth was them educating me on automations and marketing. I was doing none of that before I met them,” she said. 

The automated lead nurture was something Moorehead was admittedly apprehensive about at first, as she wasn’t sure how automated communication could sound authentic.

“My big thing is being extremely authentic and being who we are…and it did seem like it [might be] inauthentic, so I kind of felt like it wasn’t going to work,” she said.

But Moorehead trusted ProFit’s Business Mentorship Coaches Tim Lyons and Randy Angsten and took a risk, and within a couple months, she was generating more leads and foot traffic than she ever had before.

The result: Moorhead has 102 semi-private members today, up from her 30 personal training clients in the one-on-one days. On top of this, she was successfully able to convert every single personal training client she had into semi-private clients. 

Where she is Today
With 102 clients today, Moorehead’s income has more than doubled from the pre-ProFit days a year-and-a-half ago.

And although her average client value has gone down, as personal training costs more than small group training, she’s able to make more money in 30 minutes with a small group of six than she ever was in the one-on-one model. Further, her other trainer is making a lot more money now, as well, and Moorehead is looking at bringing on a third coach.

Prior to ProFit, Moorehead’s personal training studio grossed $115,000 in annual revenue, and she wasn't turning a profit.

“As far as net profit, I was in the hole every month,” she admitted. 

Now, Moorehead’s gym is profitable and her revenue has jumped to $320,000.

In October, 2024, Moorehead also joined ProFit’s Iron Circle, a mastermind group made up of high-earning gym owners. Being part of the group has only catapulted her business to the next level.

“It shows me that I have no limits because I’m in such an amazing group with so many people across the country doing amazing things…The knowledge I’m gaining is a whole other level,” she said.

She added: “It just pushes you to be better, to do more and go beyond any possible limits that you thought you had.”

Moorehead’s Message
